22 July: Call for a Law to Protect the Victims of Hate Crime in Spain
EUROPEAN ACTION DAY FOR THE VICTIMS OF HATE CRIME- VALENCIA
22 July 2016 – Valencia, by Barbara Ruiz-Bejarano from Plataforma Ciudadana Contra la Islamofobia
The Citizen’s Platform against Islamophobia (PCCI) organized an event in Valencia to call for a Law to Protect the Victims of Hate Crime in Spain. Together with Movement against Intolerance (MCI) and Acció Cultural del País Valencià (ACPV), the PCCI has insisted on a new Law, as a legal and social response, to repair the physical, psychological and social damage caused to victims of hate crimes. The victims should not only be compensated, but also protected against retaliation. The sense of vulnerability and lack of supports continues to be one of the main reasons for underreporting hate crime in Europe. The event was attended by local media and human rights activists.
