The next European Action Day will be on 17 May: International Day against Homophobia and Transphobia! The online activists of the Campaign are currently setting the programme of actions to undertake to fight against those types of discrimination. Stay tuned by regularly visiting the platform www.nohatespeechmovement.org.

The European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed) will hold a contest in 2014 called “A Sea of Words” that will take place in the framework of the No Hate Speech Movement. It seeks to reflect on the speeches that promote racism, discrimination and intolerance in the Euro-Mediterranean countries and to find answers which would go against those racist speeches. The European Youth Event 2014 will take place on 9 and 10 May at the European Parliament in Strasbourg. Thousands of young people will participate. The No Hate Speech Movement will be represented by its activists in workshops, activities and round tables. The activists will also take part in a “Living Library”. You will have the possibility to follow this event through live streaming and to ask questions on Twitter. More information on the European Parliament site.

The European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI) is currently elaborating a General Recommendation focused on hate speech.

The third meeting of national coordinators will take place from the 12 to 14 May 2014 in Namur (Belgium) and is co-organised by the Council of Europe and the French Community of Belgium. Over more than fifty people are expected to take part in this event will which will exchange on the state of play of the European and national campaigns. Plans for activities for the upcoming year will also be established.


MONTENEGRO On 28 and 29 April, a Regional Conference on hate speech online took place in Budva, Montenegro. This event showcased the development of the European campaign and some national committees: Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Republika Srpska, Montenegro and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. Discussion groups were also organised on the themes of online and offline activities that could be put into place in the framework of the campaign, as well on the regional co-operation among national committees.

SLOVENIA On 22 May, an event organized in Ljubljana by the national youth council of Slovenia and the organization Spletno Oko FDV called “hate speech is no answer” will take place, gathering online bloggers, online editors, young journalists and participants from various youth Slovenian organisations. This event will take the form of a panel discussion and workshops on the topic of hate speech, and will aim at finding solutions on how to handle, prevent and recognize hate speech.
