No Hate Speech Movement launch in the Russian Federation

 No Hate Speech Movement campaign was officially launched in the Russian Federation in the framework of the International Youth Camp “Dialogue” (3-7 July 2013, Kaluga region, Etnomir cultural centre).

The opening ceremony of the Youth Camp brought together representatives of various governmental bodies responsible for youth policy, youth leaders and representatives of youth organisations from the Russian Federation, but as well other member states of the Council of Europe. Ms. Tina Mulcahy, Director of the Youth Department, presented the campaign to the young people, explained its significance both at national and international level.

On 5th July, the national campaign in the Russian Federation was officially launched. The ceremony was opened by Mr. Vladimir Kharchenko, Vice-Chairman of the National Youth Council of Russia and member of the Advisory Council on Youth of the Council of Europe. Mr. Kharchenko presented the national objectives, as well as the events planned. The launch also featured testimonials of young people who were targeted by hate speech.russian federation launch 11

Several workshops of the International Youth Camp “Dialogue” were devoted to the campaign, offering the participants to develop their own proposals for the campaign in the Russia Federation.

Participants in the camp also realised a video to call on for action against hate speech and organised, in the last day of the camp, a flash mob. Around 70 young people in white t-shirts with the logos of the “No hate speech movement” came into the central hall of the “Ethnomir” centre where in front of hundreds of the visitors of the centre made up a symbolic heart and shouted “I’m the same as you! No hate! No hostility!”
