for the Action Day for Refugees and Asylum Seekers on 20th June 2016

The Action Day for Refugees and Asylum Seekers in the framework of the No Hate Speech Movement will mark the International Day of Refugees (20th June) by mobilizing all actors involved in the campaign to take actions for human rights of Refugees and take a firm stance against hate speech. The Action Day  underlines the need for  a dialogue free from hate speech and stereotypes in order to find solutions that can reconcile the situation acceptable for all people involved. For details about the the Action Day please read the Outlines of the Action Day.

Specific objectives:

  • To raise awareness of the damaging effect of hate speech targeting refugees.
  • To mobilize public in standing up, reacting and countering hate speech targeting refugees.
  • To support all social partners and organisations to develop human rights based narratives in response to hate speech targeting Refugees and engage constructively in the public debate on the refugee crisis in Europe.
  • To raise awareness of the ECRI Recommendation nr 15 on Hate Speech and its function to address hate speech in the Council of Europe member states

Guidelines: The Movement is calling for written articles, short essays and stories or video messages by/about refugees and the ‘refugee crises’ in Europe. We look for articles, short essays or video messages that challenge hateful statements and hate speech targeting Refugees, that invite to engage in dialogue and help us seeing other factors that contribute to the challenges but also solutions for the problems and related human rights challenges in Europe. Through the written or video content you can  stand in solidarity with refugees, asylum-seekers and all those working to make the right to asylum a reality. It can also debate how to best support and integrate refugees and respond to concerns of host communities. The contribution  can explain an opinion, tell a personal story or challenge a viewpoint to open a respectful debate.  The content should not be longer than two word pages or 3 minutes video message including images and shall be written/spoken in English or French.

If you have an idea that is in line with the above objectives and based on the above guidelines, please write your article or record your video message and send it to nohatespeech.movement@gmail.com by the 10th June 2016.  Selected articles and video messages (with reference to the author) will be published on the Action Day for Refugees and Asylum Seekers on 20th June 2016 on the Blog of the No Hate Speech Movement website and its social media channels (Facebook, Twitter).
