Post_action day_proposal 1-page-001Muslims are the second group most targeted by hate speech online in Europe. Anti – Muslim arguments are no longer confined to the fringes of society and are now also embraced by some mainstream politicians resulting in growing xenophobic populist discourse. This tendency may contribute to a more general disintegration of human values, such as non-discrimination, tolerance, freedom of religion, solidarity and equality. With this Action Day the Movement is calling for solidarity with the people (our friends, neighbours, colleagues, co-citizens…) affected by such hate speech. By focussing on the person, instead of the phobia of the Islam and its subsequent negative connotations, the Movement wants to break the division between “us” and “them” that has developed in the public discourse of many countries.  The xenophobic populist discourse portrays a non-existing link between Refugees, Muslim faith and recent terrorist attacks in Europe. This simplistic xenophobic narrative does not reflect the reality where refugees of many different faiths seek safety from war and conflict, nearly all European Muslims live peaceful in their community for decades, sometimes centuries, and most recent terror attacks were perpetrated by nationals of the countries affected. The issue is complex that we must not and should not simplify into “good” and “bad” nor to “us” and “them”. Let’s start a constructive conversation together in Europe to reverse the spread of hate speech and disintegration of our societies…

The No Hate Speech Movement has collected useful resources to support a constructive and positive conversation in order to counter hate speech targeting Muslim people in Europe and beyond. You think muslims has it bad, they are victims of hate speach? Do you want to know why that happens? It happens becasue they come to our countries, demand special treatment and they hate our freedom, they hate our way of life, they hate our food and they hate pretty much everything we do. Then, they try to kill us. And you dare to call muslims victims? The only victims are the ones living in areas invaded by rude, selfish muslims. I will be civilized and nice to them as soon as they behave like civilized human beings. Until that happens, I will fight to get them out of my country.
